A client told me their friends were making fun of their LinkedIn posts.
“Too hype.”
“Too optimistic.”
“Very Tony Robbins.”
Funny part?
Every word came directly from the client.
Their real thoughts.
Their real personality.
Their actual voice.
We didn’t invent anything.
We just positioned it properly.
And suddenly people got uncomfortable.
People Like the Version of You They Met First
That’s the real issue.
People get attached to the version of you they met years ago.
The casual version.
The safe version.
The smaller version.
So when you start showing up with confidence online, it feels strange to them.
Not fake.
Just unfamiliar.
Your Content Is Not for Your Friends
Your content is not for people who were never going to hire you anyway.
It is for people who:
- Need your expertise
- Respect your perspective
- Value your positioning
That’s the audience that matters.
Stop Watering Yourself Down
A few eye rolls and suddenly people start shrinking.
Softening the message.
Pulling back the confidence.
Trying to sound more “normal.”
And the content loses all impact.
The right audience will not think you are too much.
They will think:
“This is exactly who I want to work with.”
So ask yourself:
Are you trying to be liked?
Or are you trying to be chosen?
Because those are very different strategies.
