Anyone Can Do Social Media… Until They Actually Have To.

I love when I hear this. Truly. It brings me joy. It warms the cockles of my heart.

I also love when folks I’ve consulted with post consistently for a few weeks…
and then suddenly fall off the face of the earth. Only to reappear 6 months later, post for a week or two, and then **poof** vanish again.

It’s like spotting a groundhog.
Will they see their shadow?
Will they bless us with another post?
Who knows?

And then we have the crowd that proudly says, “I don’t need social media help. My kid can do it.”
“The Gen Z intern can do it.”
“Our admin assistant has an Instagram, she’s basically a marketer.”

No shade to admin assistants…y’all are literally the backbone of civilization…
but social media strategy is… Not 👏 Your 👏 Job 👏 Description. (Also, let y’alls bosses know this. It’s ridiculous they expect this out of you and then get mad when it doesn’t work out the way they thought it would. And another thing, if they want you to do this, ask for more pay. You’re worth it.)

Managing a brand online isn’t:
• posting a Canva template
• throwing random hashtags at the wall
• writing captions that are so long they belong in “War and Peace.”

So let me make this real simple…

What a social media marketer/manager does:
→ Builds a brand voice that people actually recognize
→ Creates content that aligns with business goals
→ Knows how to get attention without embarrassing you
→ Understands analytics, audience behavior, and platform psychology
→ Stays consistent even when you “don’t feel like it”

What we don’t do:
→ Read your mind
→ Fix your entire business with a single Reel
→ Magically grow accounts you refuse to give resources to
→ Fight you about posting your 47th inspirational quote of the week
→ Make miracles from the three blurry photos you sent at 2 a.m.

But sure…keep telling yourself you don’t need one of us. We’ll keep showing up. We’ll keep posting. We’ll keep helping brands grow while you pop up every so often to remind us (and yourself) that you’re “fine.”

Meanwhile, your competition?

Yeah… they’re over here enjoying the market share you keep gifting them.

Deuces,
Mo
