Are You a Broker… or Just a Content Creator?

“Are you a broker or are you a journalist?” This was a question I asked a client recently.

And over the years, I’ve asked every variation of it:
“Are you a broker or a podcaster?”
“Are you a broker or an influencer?”
“Are you a broker or a content creator?”
“Are you a broker or a [insert shiny object syndrome here]?”

Because at some point, everyone in this industry forgets to ask themselves the most important question: What is your primary role?

Social media is fun. Podcasting is fun. Interviews are fun. Networking-for-the-content is fun. And, sure…those things help your business…
…until they start replacing your business.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the hype, the likes, the downloads, the engagement, the “my content calendar needs content” mindset… that you forget the actual job:

You are a broker.

Your job is to create and maintain relationships with the goal of transacting.

That’s it. That’s the assignment.

Everything else… the podcast, the posts, the videos, the panels, the speaking gigs… is supplemental.

Useful? Yes. Supportive? Absolutely.
Your core identity? No.

You’re not here to become a full-time marketer for your own business. You’re here to grow your business. And sometimes that means zooming out and reminding yourself:

→ Your content is a tool, not your title.
→ Your social media is a strategy, not your identity.
→ Your audience is not your pipeline… your relationships are.

So the next time you’re knee-deep in editing a podcast episode, reheating your coffee for the third time, or debating which trending sound to use… Ask yourself:

“Am I being a broker right now? Or am I being everything but a broker?”

Gentle reminder, fam bam: Your business needs you.
Not your podcast mic.
Not your ring light.
Not your perfectly curated content machine.

You and only you. Just you. Doing what you do best.

Is it time you remember that?

Deuces,
Mo
