My ADHD Quirk Superpower
Ever heard a person’s voice in your head and then tried to mimic them?
That’s what I do when I create content for my clients.
I didn’t know that most people can’t do this; I just thought everyone had this talent. In fact, I used to pretend to be Dr. Phil when I worked in radio. Super easy, just say, “What are you, stupid?” (Emphasis on STOOOO-pid) in a thickTexas drawl and you’re good to go.
😉
Anyway, one of my clients recently came to me and said their friends told them their content was AI-generated. So they asked if I used AI to write their content.
Yes, and no.
I use their words and their quotes and paraphrase what they’ve said within the context of podcasts they’ve been on. What I use AI for is to find out:
– Their voice, tone, and style.
– The themes and key points they talk about.
– Their core emphasis.
And then I create content based on that.
When I am writing for my clients, I hear how they talk in my head. Their intonation. The way I think words would move in their mouth. (Yes, like how the air would actually move through their mouth as they said something.) How their mouth would move as the words came out. Their tongue placement.
I try to mimic that as I create the content – so that someone from New York City doesn’t sound like someone from Dallas doesn’t sound like someone from Seattle.
I also don’t write grammatically correctly. I write content based on how I think they would take a natural breath, a pause. Because I also know that when we are reading on social media, we don’t want big paragraphs.
We want shit broken up.
Why?
Because it’s easier for the little grey cells in our brains to comprehend. We’re not actually reading everything word for word. No. What we’re doing is skimming and paraphrasing in our heads.
Social media written content is NOT THE SAME as professional, journalistic, Pulitzer Prize-winning writing. It’s legit, bottom-of-the-barrel, make-it-the-lowest-common-denominator-type writing.
I write the way my clients talk. Their voice is everything. And mine just happens to echo it.
Deuces,
Mo
