I saw a tweet (do we still call them that because I mean an Xeet would sound like…sheet?)…anyhoo, I digress…that said: “LOL. That’s all LinkedIn is good for at this point too.” regarding someone else’s tweet about how they’re going to troll someone on LI for being a douche. (Which, I approve of the level of petty they aspire to.)

But after reading that, all I could do was shake my head.

LinkedIn and any other platform for that matter all basically work the same way: it gives you what you put into it.

What do I mean?

The more you connect with your peers and interests on ANY given platform, the more the platform shows you content that you *might* be interested in.

Yeah, seriously. That’s how this works.

A lot of platforms (IMHO) have taken a play out of TikTok’s playbook and are FEEDING you what you want based on the content you consume and interact with. That’s what makes TikTok’s FYP – For You Page- so damn entertaining because it continuously feeds you what you crave.

So, if all you’re seeing on LinkedIn (or any platform, really) is cringe content, fluff, or people being insufferable, guess what? That’s on you.

The algorithm isn’t out to get you.

It’s just giving you more of what you engage with. If you spend time doomscrolling, lurking without engaging, or only reacting to the worst posts just to roll your eyes, the platform thinks that’s what you like. It’s literally feeding you what you tell it you want.

Want better content? Start interacting with better content.

Follow people actually sharing value. Comment on posts that make you think. Curate your feed like you would your Spotify playlist—because, let’s be real, you wouldn’t sit through garbage music just to complain about how bad it is.

Social media is a tool. Use it right, and it’ll work for you. Keep using it wrong, and yeah—it’s gonna feel useless. But don’t blame the platform just because you’re not using it the way it was designed to be used.

Rant over. But seriously, stop shidding on platforms when the real issue is how you’re using them.

Deuces,
Mo
